IFMOK press release
Movie producer Charles Maupin recently completed Liquid Wind, a documentary view of the extreme sports--kite and wind surfing--going on at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. Maupin, who has a reputation of getting into the action, hired University of Oklahoma Film & Video Junior Diana Kettle as editor. Kettle has won numerous awards for her music videos and is Pegasys’ Producer of the Year for 2003. Kettle brings a music video flavor to the documentary, which boasts breathtaking action shots and personal narratives from top Oklahoma wind surfers. Maupin also recruited James Murati for his still photography and cinema experience. On the crew is scriptwriter/editor Maggie Abel, who also assisted in the shooting of this complex extreme sport project. A number of celebrities found their way to the film: German director Michael Knof, Extreme Aquatics’ Lewis Lindenberg, local weatherman Mike Morgan, National Oceanic Atmospheric Association’s Rick Smith and Dusan Zrnic, Central Oklahoma Board sailing Association founder Bruce Robertson, City Manager Jim Couch, and nationally recognized kite surfer Nick Tubre. Local artists produced the film soundtrack. Music for the documentary is the work of all Oklahoma artists. At Champagne Studios in Enid a special track, “Long Day” written by Jon Carrube, was recorded by Jon with the help of music producer Jerry Patterson. Chris Stephens and Brad Davis energized the film with a variety of electronic scores, and Grey, an Enid rock and pop artist, contributed the psychedelic track "Joyous Occasion" from his Colours album. The project premieres January 29th, 2004 at 7:30pm at the University of Oklahoma’s Meacham Auditorium. The Broadcast Premiere is February 5th, 2004 on PBS Affiliate OETA at 10pm. Liquid Wind was recently accepted into the 2004 Bare Bones Film Festival For more information on the 59-minute documentary Liquid Wind, contact Charles Maupin at 405- 826-2501.
